The Signal Returns

Blind AmbitionJuly 17, 2026Infernalia: Infernalia — Ep. 10 - No Looking BackHammerstein Ballroom — The Backstage Production Corridor466 words

The music came back first.

Not the arena music.

Not the entrance theme.

The frequency.

Blind Ambition stood alone beneath the dim glow of a hallway light somewhere inside the Total Mortgage Arena. Their headphones rested over their ears, fingertips lightly tapping against the outer shell. One...two...three...

Heartbeat.

Air conditioning.

Electrical current.

Someone tightening the ropes two corridors away.

A production assistant nervously bouncing their foot.

The building wasn't quiet.

It never was.

Blind smiled.

"...Home."

For weeks, another company had learned the rhythm.

New rings.

New crowds.

New frequencies.

Heroes. Villains.

None of it mattered.

Every arena eventually sang the same song.

And now...

CWF's voice had found them again.

Blind slowly closed their eyes.

Three unfamiliar rhythms pulsed together somewhere beyond the concrete walls.

One steady.

One anxious.

One trying very hard to sound confident.

Kyle Bright.

Dakota Anderson.

Tyler Anderson.

"The Unstoppable Force..."

Blind whispered the name as though testing whether it fit the beat.

"It isn't force that wins."

A pause.

"It's timing."

People always believed power announced itself with shouting.

With muscles.

With promises.

Blind had spent an entire lifetime learning something different.

The loudest things almost always arrived late.

The dangerous things...

...were nearly silent.

The Anderson family talked about loyalty.

Family.

Standing together.

Blind respected that.

There was beauty in synchronization.

But synchronization wasn't the same thing as rhythm.

A family could march together...

...and still miss the beat.

Blind reached up, adjusting the volume on their headphones another click higher.

Somewhere nearby...

Cards shuffled.

A familiar sound.

Not loud.

Not dramatic.

Just enough.

Blind never turned toward it.

They didn't have to.

"You came."

The answer arrived without hesitation.

"I always do."

Magik's voice drifted through the hallway like a page turning inside an old book.

Blind exhaled.

Everything settled.

The building.

The noise.

Their breathing.

Their heartbeat.

Even reality itself seemed to fall into place whenever that deck of cards was close.

Golden Intentions had been only the beginning.

People remembered a rumble.

Blind remembered a promise.

"Remember the fox."

The fox had never left.

Neither had the story.

CWF simply turned another page.

Blind slowly opened their eyes.

"Taylor."

Their voice softened.

"You'll hear it too."

Then another pause.

"Kyle..."

"Dakota..."

"Tyler..."

"I don't think you're villains."

"I don't think you're heroes."

"I think you're people trying to prove something."

Blind nodded to themselves.

"So are we."

Their fingers rested against the headphones one final time.

"There's a rhythm inside every match."

"Some people fight it."

"Some people never hear it."

"And some..."

Blind smiled.

"...become it."

Another shuffle echoed through the hallway.

Not behind them.

Beside them.

Blind never looked.

They simply started walking.

Because every story eventually reaches the next page.

And Blind Ambition had never been the one holding the book.
