The Seventeenth Card
The hallway was empty again.
Blind Ambition had already disappeared around the corner.
Magik remained.
Not because she was slower.
Because every story deserved a proper ending.
She knelt on the cold concrete floor, placing her deck carefully before her. Sixteen cards spread themselves into a perfect circle, each one representing a memory she had gathered since stepping into CWF months ago.
Heroes.
Villains.
Dreamers.
Monsters.
Friends.
Opponents.
Every encounter became another page inside the Archive.
Every match another chapter.
Magik smiled.
"...And today..."
She reached into the center of the circle.
"...we add another."
A blank card rested where none had been before.
The Seventeenth.
Its surface reflected nothing.
Not even the lights above.
Only possibility.
Magik traced a fingertip across the empty cardstock.
Immediately, faint ink began writing itself.
Not words.
Pictures.
Three figures stood shoulder to shoulder.
One carried confidence like polished armor.
One carried nervous excitement.
One carried the burden of proving himself.
Kyle Bright.
Dakota Anderson.
Tyler Anderson.
"The Unstoppable Force."
The illustration remained unfinished.
Magik tilted her head.
"Interesting."
The card wasn't deciding who they were.
It was waiting for them to decide.
Family was a wonderful thing.
It could build kingdoms.
It could survive impossible storms.
But stories had never been decided by blood alone.
Only by choices.
The card shifted again.
Taylor Rayne appeared opposite them.
Then Blind Ambition.
Finally...
Magik herself stepped into the artwork.
Six silhouettes.
No heroes.
No villains.
Only competing narratives.
She laughed softly.
"I like this story already."
The hallway lights flickered.
A tiny orange fox quietly climbed from the edge of another card, padding across the concrete before curling around the blank Seventeenth card.
Its tail brushed the fresh ink.
The artwork changed once more.
Now every figure stood inside a wrestling ring.
The bell hadn't sounded.
No one had moved.
The outcome remained unwritten.
Exactly as it should.
Magik carefully lifted the card into both hands.
"Kyle."
"You speak of beginnings."
"They're beautiful."
"Dakota."
"You fear your first chapter."
"So does every worthwhile protagonist."
"And Tyler..."
"You believe your family cannot be stopped."
She nodded thoughtfully.
"Perhaps you're right."
"But every unstoppable force eventually discovers something far more frightening."
She smiled toward the camera.
"An immovable story."
The fox looked up at her before disappearing into hundreds of tiny violet sparks that floated back into the deck.
One by one, the remaining sixteen cards gathered themselves.
The circle closed.
The Archive had accepted another page.
Magik slipped the Seventeenth card into the center of the deck.
Not on top.
Not on the bottom.
Exactly where it belonged.
"When Blind hears rhythm..."
"I hear narrative."
"When Blind follows the music..."
"I follow the pages."
"And when we stand together..."
She closed the deck with a quiet snap.
"...the story begins listening to us."
Magik rose to her feet.
Somewhere in the arena, music echoed through the walls.
Somewhere else, Blind Ambition was already waiting.
Without looking back, Magik started walking.
"The Archive is open once again."
"And tonight..."
She smiled.
"...we gather another story."
